They’re Back

Well, it’s been awhile but they’re back. The Husker Refuse door-to-door sales team that is. I don’t know how many times they’re going to come knocking before they realize I’m not switching. I will hand it to them though, they are persistent.

The Lies

I’m all for fair business and competition. But when they try to tell me what my refuse company does and doesn’t do, it’s upsetting.

Why do they have to lie to get business?

They tried to tell me that my refuse company wouldn’t take bulk items and that’s just not true. They also gave me a low ball price and when I asked if that was there everyday price, they said yes. Again, another lie. I called their company to see what their rates are and they were significantly higher than what I was quoted. Now that makes sense because of the astronomical fuel prices. There’s no way they could operate at the low price they quoted unless they tack on a big fuel surcharge or something.

I can’t think of a good reason to go with Husker Refuse. Especially after I discovered some of their unethical tactics. Plus, I’m sure your local refuse service provider will match whatever price Husker Refuse offers or at least come close. And paying a little extra for good service is worth it. I have good service and I’m going to keep it. I recommend you do the same.

Husker Refuse Deal Not As Good As It Seems

A few years ago Husker Refuse sent some salesmen door-to-door soliciting trash and recycling services. They were pitching really low prices and telling everyone they were a local company. But after a little research I discovered that the owners were from Delaware and Utah. As a matter of fact, their bread and butter comes from their company in Delaware called Evergreen Waste Services. Here’s a link. I like to do business locally if I can, but to each their own. And since they lied about being locally owned I won’t even consider switching to them.

The Old Switch-A-Roo

I’ve paid attention to what these guys do since some of my neighbors switched to them. And a lot of them have switched back to their original trash service provider. When I asked why, they said that after their agreement/contract was up, Husker Refuse started charging them extra for things. Even if they were paying for yard waste pick up, they were limited to the amount they could pick up. And they had more than the limited amount, they paid a premium to get the rest of it picked up. Plus, their rates went up significantly after the ‘deal’ was up.

It’s How You Finish

I get it. Everyone likes a good deal. But when you’re dealing with someone who’s providing a service that you’ll be using for as long as you’re living in your home, you want to make sure it’s going to last. It’s not worth it if you save a little up front and then pay up for it in the end.

By staying with my guy, I’ve actually saved money. That is compared to what my neighbors pay now and what they pay for extras. Plus, I don’t have to have my branches bundled if I just have a small amount and I don’t have a limit to how much yard waste I can put out. After all, I’m paying for the service.

Buyer Beware

I suggest you do your homework before switching. You should not have to sign a contract for trash service. What if a better deal comes along but you’re locked in? That isn’t right. If they’re as good as they say and the deal’s as good as they say, they should just offer you a guaranteed price for a duration of time. And why do they tell everyone they’re local when they’re not. They even went as far as posting their business registration information on their website to ‘prove it.’ But that proves nothing. Every business that does business in Lincoln has to have those same forms and licenses.

I say support local while you can. We all know what happens when some Goliath company gets control of everything. Then they dictate ALL the rules and prices. Look around your neighborhood. I bet you notice a lot of people who switched to Husker Refuse have switched back to their local hauler.

Husker Refuse Does NOT Have The Best Rates

I think Husker Refuse is up to their old, and in my opinion, shady tactics again.

And I can see why because they have lost A LOT of customers in the areas around my house. A couple of my neighbors tried them out and then went back to their previous service provider because Husker Refuse was inconsistent and sloppy. I tried to tell them to stay with their local guy.

If you live in Lincoln, Nebraska you probably received a postcard from them in the mail. It said something insinuating that all of the garbage companies in Lincoln have been ‘blindsiding’ them by charging too much. Then Husker Refuse went on to claim that they had the best rates in town. That proved to be false too because I called to see what their rates are and I’m paying less than they told me on the phone.

Trust me on this. You don’t want to change your trash services to Husker Refuse. If you have good service with a local hauler, you should stick with them. Even if they’re charging a little bit more, but they’re probably not, it’s worth it to know you’re going to get the service you’re paying for.

Husker Refuse Making Streets Unsafe

Husker Refuse Has 385 Violations

Husker Refuse opened shop in Lincoln just a couple years ago with the plans of expanding their operations into Lincoln, Nebraska. Marcus Stevens and Raphael Mordo also own Evergreen Waste Services in Delaware.

But things appear to not be going so well for them because, apparently, they don’t like to play by the rules. That’s why the Nebraska State Patrol launched an investigation into their company in February 2018 and they did like what they found.

Husker Refuse was fined $76,000 for 385 violations. And you can read all about it here.

However, rumor has it that they do like using HIGH PRESSURE DOOR-TO-DOOR SALES TACTICS that lock people into a 5 year contracts.

No other refuse service in Lincoln, NE requires their residential customers to sign a contract of any kind.

Do Husker Refuse Trucks Make Streets Unsafe?

In my opinion, having 50,000-65,000 lb trucks rolling through our residential streets with brakes not operating properly, having driver’s without the proper licensing, bad tires, and loose wheels. They had 26 SAFETY VIOLATIONS too & you can read that list here.

Is Husker Refuse Worth It?

Sure, their sales people might save you a few bucks a year. Everyone likes to save money. But do you want UNSAFE. OVERWEIGHT. NO BRAKES. trucks, with drivers who don’t have the proper training rolling through your neighborhood?

I would hope not.

If I were you, I’d call your previous, local hauler and play it safe. They may even match or beat the rate you’re getting from Husker Refuse.

We have to keep our streets in Lincoln safe!

Are Husker Refuse Trucks Safe To Be On YOUR Streets?

How Many Safety Violations Does Husker Refuse Have?

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Husker Refuse has been inspected 25 times and has 26 violations.

That’s not good.

Some of these violations include:

  • Driver operating withOUT a CDL(Commercial Driver’s License)
  • No or defective parking brake system (what do you think would happen if a 60,000lb truck started rolling down a hill with a ghost driver?)
  • Wheel fasteners loose (can you imagine a wheel coming off a garbage truck going 35-55 mph?

There are several other violations and you can read them all right here. Plus we’ve read posts on social media about their trucks leaking oil and hydraulic fluids all over the streets.

Husker Refuse may save you a LITTLE bit of money. But that would appear to be all they really care about… money. Making it for themselves while endangering fellow drivers and pedestrians in the neighborhoods of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Warning: before signing a 5 YEAR CONTRACT with these guys do your homework. And call your local hauler. He can probably offer you some kind of discount or match their offer. At least you know then that you’ll be getting good service and keeping the streets safe.

Husker Refuse Five Year Contract

When a residential trash company REQUIRES you to sign a 5 YEAR contract, RED FLAGS should go up.

This gives THEN the power to add an addendum and change the rate if they see a “need” to change them.

Beware of new companies coming to Lincoln.

Husker Refuse is a subsidiary of Evergreen Waste Services which is located in Delaware.

Husker Refuse FIVE YEAR CONTRACT

You read that right.

The boys are back from Delaware and they’re beating on the doors again. Trying to act like a local business when most people know by now that they are based out of Delaware. Their main operation, their ‘cash cow,’ is Evergreen Waste Services. Check them out here.

BUYER BEWARE

The majority of people who are signing up with Husker Refuse are discovering, AFTER THE FACT, that they’ve entered into a 5 YEAR CONTRACT.  They discover this when they decide that they want to stay with their current hauler because they’re getting good service AND they’ll match the price. Take a look below. Who wants to be LOCKED INTO a contract for 5 YEARS?

Husker Refuse Trashes Recyclables In Lincoln Landfill

Husker Refuse Trashes Recyclables

The old saying, “you get what you pay for,” is accurate 99.9% of the time. And it appears to be true again.

The founders of Husker Refuse came to Lincoln Nebraska after building their refuse business in Delaware. Thinking they could build another sizable waste hauling business there, they sent their sales team knocking on the doors of Lincoln residents. The members of the Husker Refuse sales team say and do anything to get the customer. From saying they’re associated with other local companies to telling potential customers that they had bought out their existing trash company. And the prices they offer to acquire the customer are downright ludicrous at times.

Now we know how Husker Refuse is able to offer such low prices. They were, and very likely might still be, dumping the recyclable materials in the landfill with the trash. You can read all about it here.

Like I said, you get what you pay for.

Husker Refuse New Owners/Partners

The door-to-door sales team for Husker Refuse came back to my neighbors door again. This time when he asked if they were locally owned, the salesman slipped up. He said he worked for Axis Marketing who does door-to-door sales for Pest Control and Waste Management companies. But they also own Husker Refuse. They are out of Utah too, just like Marcus Stevens and Raphael Mordo. The guys who started Husker Refuse. You can read all about Axis right here.

Or you can call Axis 801-420-1504

If you want to support your local businesses,  it appears that these aren’t the guys you want to hire.

They’re Back

Husker Refuse Sales Reps Are Back

The other night a Husker Refuse salesperson knocked on my friend’s door and gave him his spiel. When he got done my friend asked him, “so you’re with Houser Refuse?” Then the salesperson said, “no, I’m with Husker Refuse, Houser Refuse stole our logo.” But my friend went on telling this salesperson that his buddy has known Houser for a long time and that they’ve been in the refuse business forever in Lincoln.

So, I did a little research and found this picture posted on social media. It looks like Houser Refuse did have the HR logo long before Husker Refuse was even in Lincoln. You can see in this picture below.

I hope they come back through my neighborhood because I’m going to be asking these Husker Refuse sales reps a lot of questions. Last winter some of my neighbors with their service had trash sitting out at the curb for a week because they never came and picked it up. I’m not sure about these guys and I’ll be sticking with my current company.
